My Nose

I never chose my nose to be,
a statement of longevity.
Its grandeur lies within its size,
and the way it looms between my eyes;
and the way it leads me from meal to meal.
Some wonder if the bulbous thing
is mine. And is it really real?

From my childhood days I wore it,
like a crown my mom adored it.
My father who had a big one too,
said son, its something to get used to;
and if children taunt you, dont forget,
there are bigger things you will regret,
and your nose will grow much bigger yet.

So big in fact that when I sneeze,
the trees around me lose their leaves.
It precedes me into any room,
but it has always made the ladies swoon.
People often say to I,
smaller noses we have seen,
on elephants and rhinoceri!

Me and my nose are stuck together,
weather for worse or maybe better.
It gives my face a regal look;
and helps turn pages in this book.
And when they put me in a basket,
tell the one that builds my casket:
to cut a hole on top so I,
can smell the flowers when I die…

My name is Sarah and I’m an avid reader, a lifelong writer, and a full time college student. I’ve spent countless hours reading hundreds of books throughout my life. Most of the books I read are science fiction/fantasy, but I do somewhat stray outside of those boundaries and visit other genres as well. Nothing is more rewarding to me than delving into an unknown world and watching a story unfold like the silken pedals of a day lily as the sun rises.

I’ve never blogged before so hopefully my first attempt not does not butcher the conception of a blog too much. I am going to try to fill these blank e-pages with book reviews and lists, writing tips, a few of my own works, and whatever else I find useful and relevant.

There are several different pages in this blog, each one devoted to a separate aspect of literature:

Writing Tips and Advice – The title of this is fairly self explanatory. Here is where I will compile as much information and advice as I can to help aspiring writers and perhaps even help those of you who have already published works of your own. Any useful topics you would like me to cover then please feel free to email me or leave a comment in the comment section below.

Book Reviews and Lists – In this section I will attempt to give you an unbiased review of different literary pieces (short stories, novels, and poems), suggest my personal favorite books, and even provide lists (i.e top ten books, upcoming books, poems, and more).

Comedy Corner – I believe humor is an essential part of a person’s life so this will be, by far, my favorite part of the blog. In the Comedy Corner expect to find any literary piece that has something to do with comedy. Funny quotes, comics, excerpts from books, and even short stories will all be included, as well as an occasional photo or .gif.

Author’s Archive – As a writer, I always value the constructive criticism of others and welcome any advice. Here I will occasionally post works of my own and pieces from what I’m currently working on. I am working on several novels and will hopefully have several completed sometime in the near future, however I will try to post some of my works and encourage all others to do so as well.
